Romie Gessell, Mayor
Term: 12/31/2026
Serving on the Burtrum City Council is an honor for Romie as his family has been in Burtrum for nearly 100 years after his Grandparents Bill and Hazel Richardson moved to town in the 1930’s. His Grandfather served as Burtrum Mayor while his Grandmother was the long-time city treasurer. His Grandmother also served as a school teacher at the Burtrum school. In addition, both his grandparents along with his mother and father ran the Burtrum grocery store and Skelly Station for many years on the west end of main street. Romie previously served on the Burtrum City Council in ‘80s. His father, Romie Sr., served as the police chief. When Romie was able to get licensed, he assisted his father in that role.
As Romie says, he has been married to his beautiful and amazing wife, Beth, for over 35 years. Together, they have three grown children and three grandchildren. Romie and Beth like to spend as much time as possible with their family. They also enjoy hunting, spending time on their land up north, riding their Ranger, evening bon fires, and driving their Camaro convertible and Monte Carlo SS. Romie and Beth decided to move back to Burtrum to Romie’s home place with his mother, Ruth, who is a life-long resident of Burtrum.
